TOLEDO PAL CARES / ANTI-BULLYING INITIATIVE

The Toledo-Lucas County Police Athletic League is committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students and that means ensuring that every student can attend school without the fear of harassment.  Bullying can happen during or after school hours.  While most reported bullying incidents happen at school, a large percentage of bullying happens while going to and from school, on the bus or playground and even in your neighborhood.

Bullying comes in many different forms.  Below we've listed the different types of bulling and examples of each:

  * Physical bullying: actual harm to another individual's body such as hitting, kicking or punching.

  * Verbal bullying: threats, teasing, and /or name calling

  * Social or relational bullying: gossip, rumors and intentionally leaving someone out of interactions.

Below are steps students can't take to get help.

  * Let an adult know right away!  This can be your teacher, counselor or parent.  We Can't help if we don't know.

  * If you don't feel comfortable telling anyone, you can also report anonymously through the "Have a Need Box" at Toledo PAL.  If you use         this method, let us know what we can do to make you feel safe.

SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!

If you have any questions regarding Toledo PAL's Policy on Bullying, Please feel free to contact Sergeant Ron Paris or Police Officer Kimberly Darrington at: [email protected] or [email protected]

* In July, 2008 teenager Jessica Logan took her own life after her classmates bullied her when an ex-boyfriend passed around photos of her that she had sent to his cell phone.  The Ohio Legislature passed The Jessica Logan Act, which amends state law to include prohibiting cyber-bullying through the use of a cellphone, computer or other electronic communication device.  To read the details of The Jessica Logan Act, click the link below: http://archives.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=129_HB_11
